First phase of election 2019 saw turnouts matching the voting percentages recorded in the 2014 polls. Key takeaway NDA's sweep in 2014 had much to do with a record high voter turnout, according to research by Lokniti. The data suggests that more people came out to vote in a constituency, the higher were the chances of the NDA candidate's victory. This may indicate that the NDA had a large following among the voters who were not committed to a political party and thus won't come out to vote unless nudged.
Money, money, money
Seizures in phase 1 of the elections touched Rs 2,426 crore, that's double the overall figure for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The seizures included Rs 607 crore in cash (as against Rs 303 crore seized in 2014), liquor worth Rs 198 crore, drugs totalling Rs 1,091 crore, gold worth Rs 486 crore and other freebies worth Rs 48 crore. This, dear reader, is just the tip of the iceberg.

Smriti admits she doesn't have a degree
BJP's star candidate from Amethi declared in her poll affidavit that she is not a graduate. This is the first time that she makes it clear in her poll affidavit that her three-year degree course was "not completed". In the 2014 election, when she fought from Amethi for the first time, she had listed Bachelor of Commerce Part-1, School of Open Learning (Correspondence) University of Delhi, 1994.
Way back in 2004, when she contested in Delhi's Chandni Chowk against Congress leader Kapil Sibal, her affidavit only said B.A. or Bachelor of Arts, 1996, Delhi University (School of Correspondence). Here's the story
