What's an election without a slogan
They may not be enough to win an election, but there's no fun without them. Sample some:
Jana Sangh ko vote do, beedi peena chhod do; beedi mein tambaku hai, Congress wala daku hai
Coined by the saffron brigade in the 1967 Lok Sabha polls, the healthcare slogan helped Jana Sangh more than double its tally to 35, from 14 in 1962.
Ek Sherni, Sau Langur; Chikmagalur, Chikmagalur
In 1978, Indira Gandhi, who was contesting from Chikmagalur in Karnataka, used to slogan to take a jibe at the infighting that had become public between the various constituent parties of the Janata Party government. The slogan worked, and Gandhi returned to power.
Galon mein jo lali hai, Topon ki dalali hai
The 1989 Lok Sabha election slogan was aimed at the Rajiv Gandhi government and its alleged role in the Bofors deal. Bari Bari Sabki Bari, Abki Bari Atal Bihari
The inspiration for the now famous 2014 BJP slogan of Ab ki Baar, Modi Sarkaar, it was used in the 1996 election.
Jab tak rahega samose mein aaloo, tab tak rahega Bihar mein lalu
Used by Lalu Yadav to reboot his poll fortunes in the 1990s.
